Install the Tizen Player


Article Summary

This article describes how to install the Grassfish Player on Samsung Tizen devices.

Supported models

The following Samsung Tizen embedded media players running Tizen 4.0 have been tested and are compatible with the Grassfish system: 

  • QMxR

  • QBxR

The following Samsung Tizen screen series use Tizen 6.5 which is supported, but still has compatibility issues:

  • QMxB

  • QHxB

The newest Samsung Tizen series use Tizen 7.0 which is supported except for synchronization:

  • QMxC

Prerequisites

Before you begin the installation, ensure that your meet the following prerequisites:

  • Samsung Tizen embedded media player and relevant accessories (cables, remote control, etc.)

  • Network access with connection to the Grassfish IXM Platform

  • Tizen JavaScript player software (Please contact Grassfish for more information.)

  • Tizen JavaScript player software has been uploaded to the backend of the server. We recommend creating a Tizen directory in the www directory of the backend server.

  • The before-mentioned upload of the Tizen player software leads to a URL  for downloading the Grassfish Player from the backend server, such as https://example.com/tizen. To test your Tizen server installation, open the following website: https://example.com/tizen/sssp_config.xml. The screen will open the same URL.

  • TouchPoint configured with your Grassfish IXM Platform:

    • The serial number of the Samsung Tizen works as the Box-ID. You can find the number both on the device and on the box.

    • Both 14- and 15-character serial numbers are supported.

Install the player

You must install the player on the device and initialize and configure both the Tizen OS and the Grassfish Player software. To do so, perform the following steps:

  1. Remove the device from its packaging and set it up on an appropriate stand or mount.

  2. Connect the power cord and the network cable if you don’t use WiFi.

  3. Power on the device.

  4. Depending on your screen, perform one of the following steps:

    • For a first-time installation, select your preferred language using the arrow keys on the remote and press Enter to confirm.

    • For a screen that has been used before, go to Menu > System > Start Setup.

  5. As installation type, select Basic Setup. Press Enter to confirm.

  6. As display orientation, select Landscape or Portrait. Press Enter to confirm. Note that you must set the same orientation on the player  and in the screen layout in the IXM Platform. 

  7. Disable the auto power off option by selecting Off. Press Enter to confirm. 

  8. Wait for the successful check of the network connection. If you use WiFi or an internet proxy, specify the network setting details. 

  9. Under Play via, select URL Launcher. Press Enter to confirm.

  10. Enter the URL for downloading the player software that you’ve installed before (see prerequisites).

  11. Press Done and Enter to confirm.

  12. You can skip Connect to RM Server. The Grassfish player doesn’t require this functionality. 

  13. Enter the current date and time press Next. Note that HTTPS connections only work with the correct date and time.

  14. Click on Done to complete the basic setup process.

  15. In the main menu, select URL Launcher to load the Grassfish Player software. 

The Grassfish Player starts. From now on, it’ll start automatically on the monitor whenever powered on. Wait until the player has completed loading the assigned content. When you turn the screen off, it’ll automatically turn on again unless you disable this function in the player configuration in the IXM Platform.

Additional actions

You can perform the following additional actions on your device:

Perform a factory reset

For a factory reset, perform the following steps: 

  1. On the remote control, press Mute–1-8-2-Power on.

  2. When you see the Service menu on the screen, press Enter three times to reset the screen. Once you turn it on again, the system will start the setup process.

Note

All data will be erased. However, you can redo the basic settings when you turn the screen back on.

Display player information

To display player information, press 8 on the remote control.

Open the player debug menu

There are multiple ways to open the player debug menu. You can select one of the following options in the player configuration in the IXM Platform:

  • Date: press Enter–D–D–M–M–Enter. For example, on Christmas Day press Enter-2-5-1-2-Enter

  • Serial number: enter the last four digits of the serial number. For example, Enter-0-3-6-9-Enter

  • PIN: set a PIN in the IXM Platform. The default PIN is Enter-0-0-0-0-Enter 

To exit the debug menu, select Return.

Note

The date will be wrong if the screen was turned off for a longer period.

Switch menus

To switch menus, press 0 on the remote control.

Quit the player

To quit the player, perform the following steps:

  1. In the System menu, press Exit.

  2. In the Samsung On/Off Timer settings, disable the option Power on and power off times. This prevents the automatic restart of the JavaScript Player.

Uninstall  the Grassfish Player

To uninstall the Grassfish Player, perform the following steps:

  1. Quit the player.

  2. Press Home on the remote control and select URL Launcher Settings

  3. To uninstall the Grassfish Player, select Uninstall. Note that the screen will restart once if you did not disable the On/Off Timer settings.
